Thrissur Zoo and Museum


Thrissur Zoo and Museum is located right at the heart of Thrissur (Old Trichur) city just outside the famous "Thrissur round", and it is just 70 km away from Kochi. Thrissur Zoo and Museum is started functioning in 1885. Thrissur Zoo & Museum occupy around 13.5 acres of land in the heart of Thrissur metro. The zoo is is comparatively less but houses some interesting stuff for your kids. The museum located inside the zoo campus exhibit a lot of historical articles including sculpture, religious idols, kathakali figures, traditional jewelers of Kerala and votive objects with a really delightful collection of traditional lamps. Thrissur Zoo & Museum is opened for public from 10 am till 6:30 pm, on all days except Mondays. The zoo entrance ticket costs a nominal fee of Rs. 5 for the adults and Rs. 3 for with children up to the age of 14 years and your cameras may costs you some additional bucks. This zoo houses rare animals like lion tailed macaque, tiger, lion, deer, sloth bears, monkeys, hippopotamus, camels, species of birds and deer, King Cobras, Kraits, Vipers and Rat Snakes etc. It is a Kerala Government Institution.This is one of the perfect picnic spots for your young kids.

Vazhachal Falls


Vazhachal Falls is very near to famous Athirappilly water falls. It is just 90 km from Kochi and situated in Thrissur district. Vazhachal Falls are located in Thrissur District of Kerala. Running on Chalakkudy River, these are just 3 kms from Athirappilly. It is the fall of water through Chalakkudy river just before Athirappilly falls. Vazhachal Water Falls spans from the Charppa water falls to Athirappilly water falls. This fall start calmly from the high ranges and the tail race water of Poringalkuthu Power House and catch speed as it runs through slippery rocks of the Green Forest. The drizzling water provides an extreme soothing effect to the visitors. Visitors from Kerala and Tamilnadu comes throughout the year. But June to October is considered as best time.

Athirappally Waterfalls is an intimidating water pledge in chalakkudy river of about 80 feet. The rippling water comkes from Vazhachal falls and offer an exciting view.
